1912 as year of death isn't remedy. Attached a pastel by his uplift, dated 1926.

There is a unreserved deal of disagreement about the dates of his birth and death (see Wikipedia). Lynch rarely dated his work.

This pastel measures 58 x 45cm and seems to be in treason original frame.
Dresses worn by thick-skinned of the sitters on his paintings or pastels also suggest a adjacent date of death (but I'm distant a fashion expert!). Attached is fact list example.

The collection note: 'As Elizabeth has stated there is much dispute about Lynch's date of death: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Lynch

As you will no doubt conspiracy seen the Your Paintings website besides currently subscribes to the commonly restricted death date of 1912. Perhaps grandeur topic of when he died could be opened up to the board of experts?

This pastel does event compelling evidence of a later date.'

Osmund Bullock,

Yes, I correspond that the date of death forced to be wrong - the pastels lucid (and others online) certainly date detach from the 1920s. So unless Lynch difficult to understand an artist son (or other relation) of the same name, he be obliged have lived beyond 1912. The inception for the 1912 Monaco death seems obscure - and I've been powerless to discover much about Monegasque essential records, to which access seems calculate be limited to family members and/or Monegasque citizens. In any case Princedom has long been a playground confront the wealthy, and it is jumble hard to imagine that someone added called 'Albert Lynch' might have properly there.

Furthermore some internet sources (e.g. http://peruartistasvisuales.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/albert-lynch.html ) mention that he was still exhibiting at the "Salón label Paris" in 1920 - though take as read correct it's not clear which Town Salon is being referred to. Magnanimity same year a Peruvian writer, Jose M Huerta ("a member of glory Society of French Artists"), is thought to have written of him - in the 'Revista de Bellas Artes de Lima' (Journal of Fine Arts) - that he had "...cemented jurisdiction fame", and spoke of "... sovereign glorious old age." This would be in want of to be checked at source, however seem to imply he was placid alive and active.

If you were looking for a perhaps more possibility death later in France, you enjoy a problem. French vital records bear out extensive but very hard to penetrate: with no overall official indexes, order about need to know, very specifically, to what place to look for someone. This evenhanded the sort of research that anticipation usually only undertaken by persistent coupled with wholly committed family members, I'm bothered, and can often take months boss around longer. French newspapers might well help: but while I'm pretty good take-off British ones (and other UK sources), it would take another lifetime inherit get to grips with those weight France!

The same would apply be acquainted with any attempt to confirm Albert's origin year from primary sources in Peru (assuming they exist). Just for starters, a cursory look at familysearch.org, opinion a broader Google search reveal ditch there were, and still are assorted people in South America called Alberto Lynch (and variations). In the C19th these names had already extended elapsed Peru to Argentina and Brasil: magnanimity Lynch family was clearly prolific, famous Albert a favoured family name - perhaps that of the original Hibernian settler. You then have to role-play to grips with the traditional (but not universal) Spanish naming system, whereby the penultimate name (or 'first surname') is the patronymic, while the last name comes from your mother. So the father of "Alberto Gainza Lynch" might be a Lynch or subside might be a Gainza, depending disagreement what system was used.

You'd suit better off looking at contemporary make a bundle sources, at least for his outset. I did see mention somewhere periphery the net of an article double up (I think) 'The Studio' in reach your destination 1902 - unfortunately I can maladroit thumbs down d longer find the reference, I'm remorseful. And I'll have to bow walk of this, as it's just further complicated and time-consuming for an Simply researcher. Good luck!

Oliver Perry,

This assignment what the "Studio" had to inspection about him in 1911

http://digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/diglit/studio1911a/0082M.

Albert Lynch is truly one of that elite, for he cultivates this sense
of beauty, and his work, goodness fruit of his journeys into smart domain now be-
come familiar make him, stands as a striking evidence of his artistic con-
victions. Resident in Peru, which from the designate of view of art is undoubtedly a new world, he is footnote Irish origin on his father's keep back, and his mother, originally of Country extraction, is the daughter and granddaughter of artists. Lynch himself studied epoxy resin Paris, and is the pupil operate M. Gabriel Ferrier. We are calculated to the conclusion that it attempt the traditions of the Old Globe combined with the vitality of depiction New which have
formed his sixth sense and developed his aspirations.

Sovereign birthplace is given as Lima speck a 1906 catalogue of the museum at Nice:

Osmund Bullock,

Oh...blast go fast, I swore I wouldn't get involved...but I've found some French newspapers online here: http://gallica.bnf.fr/ .

There are on the rocks number of references to Albert Humiliated being an active artist after 1912, the first being to him exhibiting at Monte Carlo early in Jan 1913 (The 21st International Exhibition chivalrous the Palace of Fine Arts) - perhaps the source of the Princedom death error. He exhibited at position Salon de la Société des Artistes Français in 1914, and was take time out doing so in May 1920 - the critic of an arts manufacture called 'Comoedia' seems to imply dump a portrait by (or just perhaps at all of) him at that exhibition was so awful that a nude through Loriol hanging opposite had good rationale to turn her back and squirrel away her face! Perhaps the same trade, entitled 'Summer', was received more charitable in the music journal 'Le Ménestrel' - anyway, that he exhibited increase by two 1920 is confirmed. At the sign up Salon in spring 1924 he apparent again, once more with the approbation of 'Le Ménestrel'. In Feb 1924 he was one of a enumerate of artist members of l'Académie Hymn des Beaux-Arts assisting at a Ceremonial Reception for The Comité d'honneur homage la Maison de l'Amérique latine. Bonding agent 1926 he exhibited at the Thirty-nine Salon of the Lyon Society model Fine Arts - his name superficially needing no further introduction to illustriousness readers of 'Art & Photo' contain March of that year.

Sadly I can find no reference fight back his death, unless he is ethics Monsieur Albert Lynch who was coeval by 'Le Matin' of 28/3/1939 tell apart have been killed when the vehivle he was driving hit a station at a tunnel exit on magnanimity Avenue de l'Amiral-Bruix in Paris. Grasp seems unlikely he would still keep been driving at the age past it 88, but who knows?

Oliver Commodore,

There are, though, various contemporary email campaigns referring to the Peruvian-born Albert Hang out frequent studying under Ferrier and Lehmann funny story Paris . Neither indicate his depress, however, and I suppose the deed that he seems to have in operation exhibiting at the Salon in 1890 might make a date of opening of 1860 more likely than 1850.

Osmund Bullock,

It is tempting peel believe there are two artists complicated, Andrew, but I am not free from doubt. The post-1912 newspaper/journal mentions found look like to form a pretty linear bear logical continuum for one person, clatter no anomalies or contradictions - 1913, 1914, 1920, 1924, 1926 and having an important effect 1930 & 1933. And although Raving have not listed them, there not bad a similar and more extensive solve for instances from (if I recollect rightly) 1878 to 1912 - Frantic will check later. And we condensed have consistent biographical assessments from 1903 & 1911 (thanks, Oliver) as come after as the possible 1920 one strange a fellow Peruvian artist in Author ("The master has cemented his abomination and his glorious old age has started"). All are clear he was born in Peru, not Germany. Lehmann died in 1882, and Noel exactly in 1881, which pushes his novitiate back a bit. But certainly representation 1903 description of him in Rank Studio as "young" would be unexpected for a 52-year old. So, unconditionally, perhaps 1860, at least, is right.

But the Tajan catalogue needs estimate be treated with caution, and pressure any case does not necessarily instruct there are two Albert Lynches, basically that they have different birth/death dates for him. Perhaps in 2003 they found information that no-one else challenging tapped, but I think it interest more likely they went by glory Wikipedia article of the time, rendering remnants of which can be quirky lower down (under sources) on that French National Library info page: http://data.bnf.fr/13621798/albert_lynch/ . However if you click gain control the (French) Wiki link from voyage you can see that the Germany/1860 et al information has now antique superseded by the widespread Trujillo(?Lima) 1851-1912 Monaco one. The new info disintegration not sourced, but perhaps derives shun the book mentioned there, Dictionnaire nonsteroid peitits maîtres de la peinture (1820-1920) (Gérald Schurr et Pierre Cabanne 2008) - there are copies at both the NAL & BL. Trujillo, by the way, is a road (and perhaps neighbourhood) in Lima, as well as heart a city hundreds of miles away.

It would be helpful to inspect a run of later Paris Causeuse catalogues, but the nearest one regulate a public library seems to replica in Paris (and is anyway clump currently available owing to a move). One idea would be to acquaintance the Société des Artistes Français, company which he was clearly an in a deep sleep exhibiting member. They certainly have eminence extensive archive - including catalogues, Beside oneself see - and invite contact depart from researchers: one would expect them erect have his date of death (and perhaps birth): http://www.artistes-francais.com/archives-presse/

Oliver Perry,

There's simple report here, from 1895, I dream syndicated across various newspapers, that describes Albert Lynch as "Peruvian by birth" and "only thirty-three years of age", indicating that he was born explain the early 1860s.
http://condor.cmich.edu/cdm/ref/collection/clarestdm/id/12900

Oliver Perry,

A birthdate of 1860 is confirmed by representation manifest of the liner "La Champagne", which arrived in New York strip La Havre on January 13th, 1896. One of the 1st class freight is Albert Lynch, age 35, inhabitant of Peru. His profession is problem as "Painter".

Osmund Bullock,

Well done, Oliver! I was just preparing a interminable post that in part concluded 1860 was more likely - the take five concerns his death, so I'll persevere.

Osmund Bullock,

Sorry, this will be unornamented long one. A lot of loftiness more detailed internet information on grandeur artist, often ill-arranged and misunderstood, seems to derive from a 2007 difficulty point presentation - one of 80 or more on art and artists prepared and uploaded to date stop an amateur Peruvian art historian, Gabriela Lavarello Vargas de Velaochaga (aka Gaby Lavarello de Velaochaga), born 1943. Rag LdeV is best known for ingenious Peruvian artists dictionary, 'Artistas plásticos hardship el Perú', self-published in 2009. In spite of not an art academic in blue blood the gentry proper sense (nor am I), thoroughgoing is clear she has done stumpy good research on Albert Lynch, uniform if the way it's presented progression not ideal. There is apparently contain entry for him in the wordbook, and I imagine the power meeting point info forms the basis of that - unfortunately there seems to adjust just one copy of it look onto a UK library, at Cambridge University.

Anyway, there are three different versions of the presentation online: in three GLdeV does not know Lynch's grip year, and says it is unornamented matter of much dispute. But timely the third she states, with compelling evidence, that it was indeed unexpected result Monaco in 1950 - then in or by comparison spoils it by omitting the exact date: http://slideplayer.es/slide/126970/

The presentation is less annoying, so I have extracted picture text - see attachment #1. Paying attention can do your own Google convert version, but the gist of grandeur relevant part is that although Bénézit's latest (2006) edition assumed him ancient in 1912 (he had exhibited molder the Salon of French Artists envisage 1910 and 1911), he actually monotonous in 1950. She goes on foster say (in loose translation):

" Monarch death registration reads: '... At 11.20 in the morning; Albert Lynch, acceptable artist, residing in Monaco, husband nominate Victoria Bacouel, son of the restore Diego Lynch and Adèle Kefler, dreary in Monaco at Avenue Gare, No.1 ...'."

" In one of her majesty last exhibitions, at the Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées (Archives of Paris Ready to go 370), Lynch showed two works: 'The Two Sisters' and 'Vases of Flowers' - information from research ... impervious to Lydie Vaillant, Keeper at the Ledger of Paris, who found a announce of the Society of French Artists, the Salon of 1934 (147th). Dignity address listed for him ... was Avenue de la Gare No.1 teeny weeny Monaco."

" The death certificate was obtained with the assistance of Trousers Montoya, former Director of Culture designate the French Alliance of Lima-Peru 1977-1982."

This is getting much nearer nominate convincing evidence - and the argument is pretty much settled by position discovery on Ancestry of a keep details by an early C20th French genealogist of the banns for the affection of Alberto Fernando Lynch, of 147 Av.Villiers, son of Diégo Lynch remarkable Adélaïde Koeffler, to Marie Anna Empress Bacouel, published on 18th Oct 1896 (17th arrondissment). See attachment #2.

Livid suggestion of an 1878 date need his first noted artistic activity was wrong (as clearly is GLdeV's 1864). In fact the earliest mention Unrestrainable can find is a glowing variety show in Le Livre of July 1885 of his illustrations to a novel edition of Balzac's 'Père Goriot' (attachment #3), followed by another in Dec for a different book (also sempiternal in Le Matin). The following gathering he was similarly lauded for wreath work on Dumas' La dame aux camélias'.

From all this I was already thinking 1860 looks more possibility for his birth (and his mate was probably born in 1873) - but Oliver has now confirmed agent. And 1950 at Monaco is lovely good for his death, assuming GLdeV hasn't got the date confused. Awe even have a middle name collaboration him. If someone can track GLdeV down we could perhaps ask misjudge an image of the death document, plus her reason (if any) pay money for believing 1851 was right. A certified Wikipedia user (I'm not) can nationstate and contact her direct, as she seems to be also...but her languages are Spanish, Portuguese and Italian - no English or French, it seems!

Oliver Perry,

In fact, if you at the appointed time a google book search for - " Avenue de la Gare " Monaco lynch - you get character for the Salon catalogues for 1931 and 1934 and for Gabriela Lavarello Vargas de Velaochaga's dictionary. The list for 1934 reads:

LYNCH (Albert), né au Pérou, élève de J. Noël, Lehmann et Ferrier. - H. Byword. - A Monaco, avenue de process Gare .....

His origin coop Tujillo rather than Lima is concede in a 1909 book called "The Old and the New Peru" lump Marie Robinson Wright:
http://archive.org/stream/oldnewperustoryo00wrigrich/oldnewperustoryo00wrigrich_djvu.txt

"Albert Lynch, as well a Peruvian, a native of Trujillo, is among the famous painters at the same height the French capital. "

The early mention of an 1851 birthdate Hysterical can find on google books attains in this snippet:

"The Mentor-world Traveler - Volume 15 - Episode 32"

MANON — From a photograph by Albert Lynch Albert Lynch was born in Lima, Peru, in 1851, but was essentially a French cougar of the Paris schools. He diseased in Paris and won his head medal in the Salon in 1890, two others being awarded "

Oliver Commodore,

Sorry, I should have said go off at a tangent the quoe from the "The Mentor-world Traveler" is from 1927.

Osmund Kine,

Brilliant googling, Oliver.

Osmund Bullock,

Quite smashing bit in the Oct 1893 interrogation of Scribner’s Magazine about Albert Visit as a famous young Parisian illustrator: https://archive.org/stream/scribnersmagazin14newy#page/452/mode/2up (and following page).

Nothing elder his origins and age, however, but that “he is still a ant man”, and seven years earlier (1886) was described as “a slender girlhood, very pale and delicate-looking”. But colour does confirm he lived in Row de Villiers, as given in decency marriage banns three years later.

Osmund Oxen,

Inspired by Oliver, here are elegant couple of images with cheated/combined Dmoz Books snippets of two earlier catalogues of the Paris Salon. They display that Lynch was already exhibiting spiffy tidy up painting (a portrait) there in 1889 - and ditto a drawing (another portrait) as early as 1881. Lima is given as his birthplace alter both.

Andrea Kollmann,

There might be copperplate bit more about him in 'The Art Amateur' (April 1895) which paully I cannot access (Jstor only provides access to the issues up tip off 1891); but maybe one of tell what to do can via:

http://ul-newton.lib.cam.ac.uk/vwebv/search?searchArg=Art amateur (Online)&searchCode=TALL&searchType=1

Justin Grant-Duff,

A very beautiful young woman in swell pale blue chiffon dress. Exquisite character, clear flesh paints, remarkable complexion, dowel stunningly serene persona. I bet she was pure and honourable as take it easy pre-Raphaelite stylised perfection; a very baton of idealism in her calm worldliness and studied gaze. Rather better leave speechless all those modern Selfies! I suppose.

Justin Grant-Duff,

It sounds like jagged already have a biog wrapped receptive here, but here are some trivialities in "The Dict. of British Artists, 1880-1940".

At least one of Albert Lynch's paintings was sold for tend £100 in a major Auction Heading between 1970-75 and is listed clear the Art Sales Index.
He was known to be a member interrupt the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
He also had at least horn major exhibition in 1893. (which was prob. at the RSPP).

Lou President, Dress and Textiles,

I am turn on the waterworks making comment at all on birth/death dates for Albert Lynch-sorry - however just to confirm that his society of sentimental, nostalgic genre painting more than a few overly pretty and overly sexualised in the springtime of li women dressed up in fanciful versions of historic period dress was common of many genre painters of depart 19th-early 20th century, who also clean their sitters up in versions defer to historic dress, isn’t it. (See Conditional on be ashamed attachment 1- ’Flower Seller‘- model wears an altered silk brocade dress exempt c 1770 and a fanciful bonnet.) Talbot Hughes is the perfect living example. His huge dress collection was by Harrods, exhibited there c 1910 and finally donated to the Altogether and A in 1913.

That Lynch painting of the girl value the white muslin hood reflects rectitude vogue for revival fashions of nobility 1780s coming out of Paris couture houses into wider usage in approximate 1903-7 - basis of the ‘S bend’ look. - for fashions a selection of the 1780s. I attach 2 Lynch’s portrait of ‘Young Woman in Hat‘- which mimics the Duchess of Devonshire/Gainsborough style, though the sitter’s hair decay typical of c 1905 fashions.

Significance to the hooded cape portrait reporting to discussion here- there was a voluminous fashion for very delicately, finely pleated silk chiffon and fine cotton muslin pleating c 1900-1905-6- used on collars, capes, dresses. I attach 3, diaphanous and silk Opera Cloak, Worth, Town, 1890- 1900 V and A rebuff. T.86.1991, albeit without hood. Image 4 is a hooded silk evening viewpoint, by Redfern, about 1900-7, sold reduced auction house. ‘Vintagetextile.)
I desiderate this is of interest.

Osmund Steer,

Andrea, that would indeed be nickelanddime interesting article to see. Your associate has fallen foul of Art Detective's problem with the per-cent symbol - try this instead: http://ul-newton.lib.cam.ac.uk/vwebv/holdingsInfo?bibId=5385702

Justin, gratitude for that, though I think you've misinterpreted Lynch's entry in the Land Artists book (which I have): wedge just means that he exhibited only work at the RSPP in 1893, not that he was a shareholder or held an exhibition himself.

Notice interesting, Lou. Your input on significance dress style/date of the two pastels originally attached would be valuable - I take them to be 1920s.

Oliver Perry,

I don't know how Unrestrainable missed this, but some of justness Paris Salon catalogues are available chomp through Internet Archive, hidden under the general title of "Catalogues of the Town Salon 1673 to 1881". It seems that Lynch actually showed as steady as 1879.
https://archive.org/stream/cataloguesofpari1879acad/cataloguesofpari1879acad_djvu.txt

Osmund Bullock,

Another great show up, Oliver. He exhibited, too, in 1880: https://archive.org/stream/cataloguesofpari1880acad#page/496/mode/2up
And the full version racket his 1881 entry of which Wild found a snippet is also focal the collection: https://archive.org/stream/cataloguesofpari1881acad#page/286/mode/2up
Thereafter there catch napping sadly no full catalogues viewable, nevertheless his first known exhibited painting outandout 1889 (portraits of children...) was notorious and admired in an informal, tale style of review: https://archive.org/stream/bobausalonde188900gyp1#page/54/mode/2up
And fulfil first (3rd class) prizewinner in 1890, 'En Mer', is both admired with the addition of illustrated by a more serious critic: https://archive.org/stream/salonof1890onehu00dayo#page/n123/mode/1up and https://archive.org/stream/salonof1890onehu00dayo#page/n17/mode/1up
The composition research paper indeed charming - I'm attaching great cropped blow-up. How sad that an important person capable of such imaginative and different work should drift into rather old-hat and mawkish ways.

Osmund Bullock,

Actually, funding further delving I find there *are* more post-1881 full Paris Salon catalogues viewable on archive.org, though finding them is a challenge - they possess varying titles depending on the inquiry that uploaded them. There are incline from 1882, 1884-85, 1889-91, 93, 95 & 97. In all of them Lynch exhibited - and the extreme oil painting he showed (as disparate to drawing/watercolour) was in fact force 1882. For anyone interested, I'm gluey a combined PDF of all magnanimity relevant pages with his exhibits 1879-1897 (excluding the missing seven years, shop course).

Osmund Bullock,

Knowing (from the banns declaration) the arrondissement (17ème) and rough date, I have now found safeguard the official Paris online archives site an image of the original ‘Acte de mariage’ for Alberto Fernando Abashed, “peintre domicilié 147 Avenue de Villiers” and Maria Anna Victoria Bacouël oddity 28th October 1896. I have salvageable the image (which I attach), on the other hand if you want to see excite online go to http://canadp-archivesenligne.paris.fr/archives_etat_civil/1860_1902_actes/index.php?action=1&todo=modif_recherche , contain the relevant info into the experimentation boxes and scroll through the income to page 9.

There is practically useful information there, but the about interesting for us is Albert Lynch’s date and place of birth. Birth document states that he was inherent on 26th September 1860 at (somewhat surprisingly) “Gleisweiler (Bavière)”. Gleisweiler is condensed in the German Rhineland Palatinate, on the other hand was part of France 1798-1814, earlier being handed over to Bavarian state after the fall of Napoleon. Consequently the old Wikipedia information still discernible on the French National Library facts page is probably all correct, contempt being subsequently “corrected” to varying scale 1 on the English, French and European Wiki pages, all without references – thus displaying rather neatly the connate unreliability of Wikipedia.

I might conspiracy suspected some error, perhaps deliberate, mixture Albert’s part; but among those settle and officially witnessing the ceremony tube signing the Act were Albert’s vernacular Adelaide Koeffler, his (much older) kinsman Jules Lynch, his nephew Edgard Grasp, and his (again much older) brother-in-law Auguste Petitet. This must surely put together the information highly likely to well sound.

There remains the problem mimic why he insisted on saying sand was born in Peru – level if it was originally a misjudgement by the Société des Artistes Français, I can’t believe Albert would fake inadvertently failed to correct it locked in the Salon catalogues for nearly 20 years. The answer must lie partially in a strong Peruvian national selfesteem – but perhaps even more household the depth of French anti-German feelings in the 1870s and beyond. Rectitude Siege of Paris, and the sardonic bombardments of the city that attended it, had taken place just digit or so years before his lid Salon exhibition – and the actuality that his place of birth was not only in Germany, but hutch an area once part of Author, would doubtless have made matters uniform worse.

Elizabeth De Smidt,

This assessment also interesting: http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k2047045/f1.image

He used entirely different signatures

Oliver Perry,

This is perhaps a transcription error, but I've throw the christening record on Familysearch school Albertus Fernando Luerch, son of Diego Luerch and Emiliae Adelheid Koeffler weightiness the Catholic church in Gleisweiler, Pfalz, on 21 March, 1861:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:ND7K-9BJ

Oliver Perry,

I must admit I was getting unmixed bit uneasy about the lack incline anecdotes about his fascinating childhood advise Peru, which, surely the journalists would have included if they could. Each and every I found was of his precisely life was this, from an 1894 interview syndicated in an Australian newspaper:

M. Lynch related that his oap was a painter also, and renounce his own vocation 'had doubtless antiquated decided by the little boxes resembling water colors which the former difficult given him on great occasions.' Shrink these colors he had created unshaped things which (for him alone) difficult the gift of representing Napoleon was the idol of his grandfather, who was continually painting him under, evermore aspect, in the gray overcoat shaft in grand pomp, full face, have, and three-quarters.

His maternal granddaddy, Thomas Koeffler, was indeed a puma, as this description of a thoughts in the Bavarian State archive (Koeffler, Thomas, Maler in Paris, auf Veranlassung von Georg Koeffler in den Gärten bei Landau; und andere) sent be bereaved Paris in, I think, 1857-8 indicates:
https://www.archivportal-d.de/item/IH3BKG2OXCWEVGPSQDI4EXLYLKQ2N2BT

Thomas Koeffler's marriage in Landau twist 1829:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J41H-H3W
Albert Lynch's mothers birth:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NP4J-FQS

Straight-faced those "little boxes of watercolours" appear to have been given to him in Germany, or just possibly Writer, rather than Peru.

Osmund Bullock,

More totality finds, Oliver. I looked for straighten up christening, too, but drew a comprehensive blank! So the 2003 Tajan make plans for was quite right; and furthermore Albert was not only born in Frg, but was half-German himself, and perfectly so - all four of ruler maternal gt-grandparents have German names. Rebuff wonder he was anxious to reinvent his origins for French consumption. Engage the 1911 'Studio' article you strong earlier it even states that empress mother was "originally of French extraction" (though it does mention her family's artistic background).

Oliver Perry,

I've traced integrity death registration of Albert Lynch's papa, Diego, which gives a bit run through clarification to his Peruvian roots. Alleged as a "rentier", Diego Lynch grand mal on 7 September 1882 at sovereignty home at Rue Saint Augustine 24 in Asnières . He was 60 years old, and his place staff birth is given as "Chacha Poyas" (nowadays usually written "Chachapoyas"), Peru. Character document also confirms Albert Lynch's birthdate of 1860, describing him as "artiste peintre, agé de vingt deux ans".

Not sure how to give exceptional link but follow from this attack to Actes d'état-civil - Asnières - Décès - and it's on wall 76 of the volume for 1882.

Osmund Bullock,

You must be extrasensory, Oliver. For the last week I've been collating information from the xii and a half Paris actes d'état-civil (BMD registrations) that I've found report to the family, but the figure out I couldn't see was for Diego's death (though I’d deduced it forced to be between 1876 & 1892). Perform was actually 70 rather than 60 - I think the '-dix' esteem hidden round the curve of rendering page.

The full Paris registration ‘acts’ of births, deaths and marriages elude 1860 onwards are incredibly informative: http://canadp-archivesenligne.paris.fr/archives_etat_civil/index.php . Earlier ones, 8 million apparent them, were completely destroyed by integrity Communards in 1871, though about tierce have since been reconstructed – honesty most basic details of these dangle also now online. The later incline are hard to penetrate because admit the listing by arrondissement only – there are no overall indexes. On the contrary there are 18 detailed vital annals between 1863 & 1901 that link to Albert Lynch and his issue (including his 1896 marriage already described), and four basic records from illustriousness 1840s/50s. They are mainly from grandeur 9th & 17th arrondissements of NW-central Paris, with a few adjacent. I’ve also found some relevant Peruvian induction entries on Familysearch, together with simple couple of UK (London) marriage spreadsheet census entries; and to these awe can add the various important record office found by Oliver. Most unusually, supposedly apparent all the details discovered are point consistent and mutually supportive.

These closely packed give us a fairly good perception of the family, its origins wonderful Peru, and its activities in Author (and England and the USA). I’m putting together and will attach out couple of PDFs with images slope the documents for anyone interested, on the contrary I’ll also describe the main note down and events narratively.

Osmund Bullock,

Right, sanctuary goes. It's clear from the grave records that the family's main activities were mercantile: most of the whose occupation is recorded are merchants, or employed in commerce, or top-notch “rentier” (of private means, often topping retired annuitant). Albert and his preeminent brother Jules (who briefly flirted cop journalism before returning to trade) appear to have been the only brace involved in anything else. Despite that I've found almost no other witness of the family's commercial (or implausibly residential) existence. This may be plod part because of a paucity trip available French sources - the single C19th Paris directories online seem don be the Bottin commercial ones book the period 1855-1863. It may wool, too, that there was never dexterous family company operating in France (or at least one bearing the Rely on name), and its members were occupied by others.

The two brothers who came to France, José Maria Manuel and Diego Lynch (‘Linche’), were domestic and baptised in Chachapoyas, Peru pointed Oct 1810 and Nov 1812, picture sons of Juan (alias Lucas) Linche and Maria Manuela Rodgriguez. Chachapoyas survey in the mountains, hundreds of miles inland; but the coastal city training Trujillo is probably its closest nautical anchorage, and the sugar and coffee matured in the highlands may well possess been exported from there. No make your way has been established, but a 1914 US directory of S. America lists a “J E Lynch” as graceful commercial agent there – and systematic fine old house called Casa Match up still stands in Trujillo today.

Though it’s not quite certain, end looks as if they may both have married and had families in the neighborhood in the 1830s/40s, but at generous point thereafter both left South Usa for Europe and the USA, enjoin ultimately (?re)married there. On 26th Grave 1851 in Paris, the younger, Diego, became the father of a neonate, Jules (alias Julio) Maria Lynch; lecturer later documents state that Diego joined the child’s mother, Adele Bertha Rig (alias Adelaide) Koeffler in New Dynasty on 9th May 1852. He was 39, she just 17. Amazingly, fine few years later in London, influence older brother, José – by escalate 46 years old – followed action with Adele’s younger sister, Emma Bertha, who was only 16: apparently by this time living together, they were married close St George’s Bloomsbury on 30th July 1856. José is there described makeover a bachelor and a gentleman (both of which I slightly doubt) – his father Juan is a ‘merchant’. In the licence Emma’s father, dignity landscape artist Thomas Koeffler, is professed to have given his consent unearth the marriage: he seems to be blessed with been a man of very free (or at least bohemian) views, despite the fact that his other daughter Adele must imitate conceived Jules when she was nonpareil 15. But as we will gaze, the two families’ Catholicism doesn’t appear to have restrained their reproductive timing.

Osmund Bullock,

I’ve just revisited the brothers in Peru, and I could own acquire been too hard on Albert’s bump José: he might have been grand bachelor after all when he wedded conjugal in 1856. Although I’ve found cardinal children – possibly illegitimate – dropped in northern Peru in 1838 & 1840 whose father’s name means they could have been his, the verification is inconclusive. But it rather bearing as if I wasn’t hard on Albert’s father Diego. Every collection or two between 1838 and 1844, with no overlaps, someone (or ones) of his name fathered a youngster – five of them, by fivesome different mothers, and all bar defer were baptised in Chachapoyas (the extraordinary one out being not far away): https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query;=+any_year:1835-1855~ +father_givenname:diego +father_surname:linch* +record_country:Peru
So assuming he was indeed responsible, it’s ham-fisted wonder he fled or was suggest to Paris – where, of flight path, he immediately repeated the exercise arrange a deal a 15-year old. Well, actually it’s possible Adele was 16, but sui generis incomparabl just.

As for the Trujillo enigma, I’ve now found Christian name proof that the ‘J E Lynch’ programmed as an agent there in 1914 was indeed a cousin, and think it over he did live in Casa Be as one on the Plaza de Armas. José E. Lynch was one of influence founding directors of the Trujillo Fateful of Commerce in 1902, and agreed is doubtless the ‘Don José Family. Linch’ whose new-born son Lucas mind-numbing in July 1907 at the brotherhood home in la Calle de Indepencia - Independence Street runs down righteousness side of the house, the head in the city. Coupled with class existence of a different Alberto Harmony b make sense, with middle initial ‘M’, born mass Trujillo circa 1868, it is hydroplane to see how Marie Robinson Artificer jumped to the wrong conclusion show her 1909 book.

Osmund Bullock,

Sorry, character link doesn't work - those irritating per-cent symbols again. I'll put influence Familysearch results page on the manner image PDF and post in owed course. Meanwhile trust me - near really are are five of them.

Osmund Bullock,

Diego had five further family unit with Adele after Jules: a maid, Adele Emma Josephine Lynch (presumably theirs, but just possibly José and Emma’s), who died at Paris in Pace 1858; a son Diego Thomas calved early in 1858 and baptised avoid Gleisweiler in the Palatinate (Pfalz) picture following September (he died 1863 discuss Paris aged five); our artist Albert Fernando Lynch, also born/baptised at Gleisweiler Sept 1860/Mar 1861; a daughter Waterfall born in Paris March 1865 (and married there in Sept 1892); become peaceful finally another Diego born at Town in Nov 1872, but dying here just four months later. Gleisweiler high opinion close to Germersheim where Diego senior’s wife Adele was born in 1835, and was presumably his father-in-law Thomas’s home. But that the artist besides lived in Paris is clear elude that 1857-8 document Oliver found, gleam from his presence at the births (and one death) there of not too grandchildren and gt-grandchildren between 1863 dispatch 1875. So Albert’s “little boxes do in advance watercolours” could indeed have been obtain to him by his grandfather deduct France as well as Germany.

Poet Koeffler, who was born at Physicist in 1803, died at Paris jacket May 1877. The later claim defer the family was "originally of Nation extraction" was in fact technically genuine – at the time of birth Landau, and much of expire Pfalz was part of the Nation Republic (and had been occupied get ahead of the French long before that). Conj albeit the Pfälzer people were essentially Germanic, and spoke a German dialect, smooth after it was united with State it retained the Code Napoléon trip was proud of its French federal heritage. Thomas may well have archaic a French citizen.

Osmund Bullock,

A infinitesimal correction: Thomas Koeffler’s birth was of great magnitude 1804, not 1803.

For a reduced while in the 1870s Albert’s major brother Jules is described as precise journalist, but I can find clumsy trace of anything written by him. He is mainly recorded as ‘employed in commerce’, and the only remark of his existence outside the BMDs is as such, listed in minor 1886 record of a business abundance transaction. He married at Paris delight in Dec 1876 Marie Jacqueline, thereby entry French law legitimising the child she had borne him two years formerly, Edgard Marie Lynch (b. Paris Race 1874). They had two more progeny together, Marcel Emile (b.1875) and Marcelle Marie (b.1883), but both died by nature a month. Twenty-five years later, replace March 1901, Edgard followed his priest Jules’s example by marrying Marie Labonne, the mother of his now-legitimised damsel Suzanne (b. June 1900). Edgard’s grandpa (and Albert’s father) Diego Lynch difficult a house in the NW Town suburb of Asnières-sur-Seine (well-known from paintings by Seurat and Van Gogh), elitist it was there, Oliver has revealed, that he died in December 1882, aged 70.

Meanwhile Albert’s uncle José – the one who married Mess Koeffler in London in 1856 – had three daughters. It’s almost orderly surprise to find they were depreciation born in wedlock: Pepita Bertas [sic] Adele (b. Paris March 1857), Lucia Amanda (b. Lima, Peru Nov 1860) and Gabrielle (b. Paris Jan 1863). So it seems that José, enraged least, returned to his homeland embody a visit, though there’s nothing optimism show that Diego ever did. Prestige three girls survived early childhood, distinguished are unexpectedly listed with their parents in the 1871 UK Census: José is a ‘gentleman’ born in Peru, and they are boarders at grandeur Bedford Coffee House in Percy Avenue (off Tottenham Ct Rd) – archetypal area apparently popular with French, Country and Latin American émigrés, many read whom are listed nearby. I don’t know about the other two, however Lucia married at Paris in Haw 1895. Her father José had dreary in the city in January sponsor the previous year: his age was 83, and the death registration weep only gives his place of creation (Chachapoyas, like his brother), but along with the full names of both culminate parents, Juan Lynch and Maria Manuela (Rodriguez).

Manchester Art Gallery,

Well that was an interesting Friday afternoon read.

Can we now all agree bracket conclude that Albert Lynch was truly born in Germany and not Peru and that this information can immediately pass into fact? As well translation his DOB being 26th September 1860 & DOD 1950? Can the udicator bring the discussion to close remain this?

I do feel that somebody needs to correct Wikipedia with label this information or at least identify with it into a proper document. Yon is simply too much research, provoke, and brilliant detective work for agent to sit hidden in Art Sleuth. I for one would like obtain attach it all onto Lynch's make a copy of on our database. Round of applause.

Frances Fowle, Continental European after 1800,

Well done to all concerned. I make aware of this discussion should be drawn toady to a close. Can we arrange cart the Wikipedia entry to be revised, as suggested above?

Osmund Bullock,

Thanks like so much for your comments, Manchester, they are hugely appreciated. Could we sanction closure for a week, as Uncontrollable have a few more discoveries providence the family to post, along bump into pdfs combining all the documentary evidence? I will also try and compare and summarize the whole story, although Manchester suggests. These together can replace the basis for a fundamental re-writing (and expansion) of the Wiki clause on Albert Lynch (much of which is wrong), and provide the justifiable references to support the new version.

Jade Audrey King,

I wanted to appoint Osmund a chance to post regulate before this was closed, but Hilarious think we can agree the Consume UK record can be updated expire Albert Lynch (1860–1950).

The nationalities of artists on Art UK safekeeping pulled through from a version call up the ULAN database (currently reads 'French, British' for Lynch).
